The Truth About Tigers

occasional musings and free verse poetry, approximately

Lucid Dream of the Sea

Roused from slumber by echoes afar,
Heavy eyes traverse night’s cold embrace.
Beneath a blanket of long-dead stars,
Drifting along tides’ gentle grace.

A craft embarks upon Neptune’s realm,
Ever onward it sails,
Through dreams’ vast expanse,
In moonlight’s soft dance,
Steadfast, sleep prevails.

Lucid dreams are the best one, and you’ve captured that feeling of waking from one, Nick. I especially like the idea of a ‘blanket of long-dead stars’ and ‘moonlight’s soft dance’.

I really love the classic feeling of this with its rhymes, rhythm and connection to mythology… well done.

Thank you, Merril! I think the idea for that line came from the wonderful Conor Oberst line, “stars that clear have been dead for years, but the idea just lives on.”
