Hollow Allegiance

Shadow-casting demagogue spewing
pseudo-intellectual language steeped in vanity,
vapid allure, a mirage for the disenchanted,
paradoxically seeking victory within a system
deemed so corrupt as to justify treason,
a beacon for unrest and vitriolic rhetoric,
orchestrating a dance of discord,
influence weaving through the fabric of belief,
pushing towards chaos,
where conviction blinds reason,
and followers echo a hollow allegiance.

Written in response to Weekend Writing Prompt #350: This weekend your challenge is to write a poem or a piece of prose in exactly 60 words using the word “Vapid.”

Jake, I really like how you capture the corrosive influence of demagoguery with strong imagery and incisive language to highlight its destructive nature… I’m so completely with you…

    Sincerely,
    David
