The Truth About Tigers

occasional musings and free verse poetry, approximately

Another Wild Saturday Night

Devoured several beautiful poems
penned by talented friends I’ve never met.
Then, worked on a couple of my own,
a weird deep-dive into the dangers of monkey adoption,
and this one you’re reading now —
sure, some might quibble
over calling these “poems,” and hey,
who am I to argue.

Braved two – watch out! – cups of chamomile tea
settled into the chair
next to the turntable,
spinning Kind of Blue for the millionth time,
before turning in
with Andy Weir’s latest adventure,
following a lone astronaut’s galaxy-spanning quest
until nearly the stroke of midnight.

Yeah, I still know how to party.

Thank you, Lia! I was just commenting on your poem, seems we were both writing about our “Saturdays” last night. Although, I must say, yours sounded a little busier, but the good kind of busy!

Yes it was the good kind of busy for sure, haha! The indispensable ‘artist’s date’ (with oneself)! ,)) And concurrence is common among likeminds! I love your poem!

Haven’t read it yet, but it’s on my TBR list. Hope it’s as good as The Martian.

Do it! I actually think I liked it even more than The Martian, which I also loved. One of those stories that grabs ahold of you and won’t let you put it down, sleep be damned, and then you feel happy-sad when it’s over, because it was so good, but you wanted it to keep going, and you miss the characters. 😆

I actually read it a while back, and just picked it up last night and started flipping through it again after I’d finished another one. Since you liked The Martian and have an affinity for sci-fi in general, I can almost promise you’ll love it!

Have you read the “Expanse” books by James S. A. Corey (or seen the Amazon Prime Series that features the 1st five of nine novels)? I’ve read a lot of wonderful science fiction in my life, but this series is my favorite. So far. 🙂

I have seen the series, and it is probably my favorite sci-fi series. Funny, yesterday at dinner, our server looked exactly like the Cara Gee, who plays Camina Drummer. Anyway, a friend has also been telling me I need to read the books, which I fully intend to do this year! Especially now, after your recommendation. Thanks!
