A Group of Sloths is Called a Snuggle

I’ve heard that sloths
can hold their breath
longer than dolphins,
a fact I won’t bother checking,

Preferring instead to happily imagine
a snuggle of sloths
crawling unhurried
along the ocean floor.

Above them, a pod of dolphins,
dancing and circling,
curiously contemplating
these leisurely interlopers,

Before surging headlong to the surface,
lungs desperately aching for air,
as the sloths steadily continue,
unfazed by the urgency above.

What do you call a Group of Sloths?

via SloCo:

You have probably heard of a murder of crows. What about a parliament of owls? A shrewdness of apes? A bloat of hippopotamuses? Who came up with these terms?

As it turns out, collective nouns (the words used to describe gatherings of things, particularly people and animals) date back to the middle ages, though collective nouns continue to evolve to this day.

There is no recognized collective noun for a group of sloths like this, and so we decided to give our supporters the opportunity to decide on one….

Thanks, Lia! This is what happens when you stay up too late at night, pondering burning questions like, “What do you call a group of sloths?”
