The Truth About Tigers

occasional musings and free verse poetry, approximately

Trapping Water

Nothing is ever truly lost
once we grasp the truth
that nothing can truly be owned.

Cars, money, clothes,
family, friends, time—
all merely borrowed,
held for a fleeting moment in our hands.

We own our actions, nothing more,
and escaping their consequences
is as futile
as trying to trap water
in a clenched fist.

Ever seen the movie Blow? I think of it often, the line “Money isn’t real, George. It doesn’t matter. It only seems like it does.” How true it is.
